“I am not a has-been. I am a will be.”
– Lauren Bacall
There will be days where you wake up from your bed and the oxygen you breathe will feel like a wildfire burning in your lungs. The air will feel like lead between your fingertips, heavy in its grip. There will be days where your mind is covered in a black fog. The darkness consumes every inch of you. You fight with every breath you can muster because you are in the process of becoming.
There will be days you look in the mirror and no longer recognize yourself. In fact, you are a stranger in your own body, a tourist in your life. You could be in a room full of people and never want to be more alone. You could be in solitude and never want more to be in the presence of another human being. Words feel heavy on your tongue when you talk. You feel if you speak in anything louder a whisper, the world will fracture. But you continue to march on in this invisible war, because you are in the process of becoming.
There will days where everything feels grey. The bursting colors you’ve grown to love will no longer be radiant. You learn to find beauty in living an ash-colored existence, learn to paint moments with the brightest color you can find. You search for joy in unlikely places because you are in the process of becoming.
The inherent exquisiteness of chrysalis is transformation. To become who you are meant to be. To become something more magnificent and more beautiful than ever before. You’ll find that the lost colors will return in their most luminous form when they greet you. You’ll find that you are not a has been but a will be.
And on days you may forget this, remember that you are in the process of becoming.
You are in the process of becoming something truly great.
