Many of us know the struggle of explaining to our non-SA friends and family what it is we do. And part of that can often be “Oh, it must be nice to have summer off!”. I’m pretty sure we’ve all had that conversation.
And while the majority of us work through the summer “break”, our pace of work often changes. Sometimes that means we’re going to be working a little harder, like if you work in orientation. Sometimes it means a lighter load, depending on the summer traffic on your campus.
This series is all about finding a way to help make summer work for you.
Do you do anything special during summer that you can’t do the rest of the year? Maybe you take extra time to read articles to help shape your practice. Maybe you research what your peers are up to. Or, you might volunteer to help out with Orientation events. Do you just alter your workflow to take advantage of the flexibility or adjust your work space to better enjoy the summer sun?
No matter what you do to make it brighter, I hope your summer is going well! For those of you working at the same pace as you do during the year, I hope you find a chance to catch at least a little break sometime in the next few weeks. To those of us moving at a slower pace, use this chance to recharge a bit, but also as an opportunity to grow. Finally, for those brave souls that work harder during the summer, the rest of us are cheering you on. No matter what, make the most of it; summer will be over before you know it.

This post is part of our #BrighterSummerSA series for June. While we don’t stop in the summer, a lot of professional have a chance to slow down for a minute. How can you utilize that slower pace to make for brighter tomorrow? Using that precious time for a greater good can seem to make your whole life smoother. For more info, please see Doug’s intro post. Be sure to check out the other posts in this series too!
