Can you see your desk right now? Is it buried under a mountain of post-its and files and pictures of cats? Or is it pristine, organized, and actually shiny? These are your #DeskDiaries.
Our desk says a lot about us as professionals, and as people. The decorations you choose, the method to the chaos, the snacks stashed in the top drawer – they all make up your best effort at a happy place at work.
My office is actually a “collaboration” space that we share with all sorts of other small companies and freelancers. I have to take everything with me every day when I leave. I am still infamous, here at LMHQ, because I tend to spread my stuff out like I am mapping out a battle plan for my troops. I always clean up, don’t worry.
In the picture, you are looking at mine and Melissa’s table for the day. The mess is comprised of:
- #SAChat awards to be mailed
- Our lunch
- All kinds of beverages (minus the alcoholic kind…)
- Notebooks and pens
- My commuting backpack that makes me look 12
- A bag on my head, because our space is decorated with “silly”
Yes, I often wish I had a permanent space where I could put up pictures and inspirational quotes. C’est la vie! This gets made up for with the fact that almost every wall here is dry-erase painted. Hello scribble fest! So many of our books and projects at SAC have been drawn up on these walls.
We thought it would be tons of fun to get a snapshot of different desk spaces in our Student Affairs Collective community. Over the course of the #DeskDiaries series, we will be seeing pictures and learning about the “anatomy” of desks belonging to #SApros of all kinds. In the mayhem that is the end of the academic year, we hope to offer our daily posts as a quick break, that may even spark creativity.
