Passion is what defines having a job versus having a career.
An SA assessment career may be the path less traveled, but it’s one that can be incredibly exciting and adventurous! When push comes to shove, assessment is critical in our world—especially when telling the story of SA and our added value in the academy.
The longer I am on this journey, the more burnt out I feel. However, more time in this career also makes me more passionate to encourage others to take the road less traveled. Maybe instead of passion, I should call it insanity. Maintaining a strong methodological framework within our work, being up to date with literature, and being able to translate technical information to all audiences can be exhausting.
There is no single pathway to the SA assessment profession. Some of us have research degrees, some have degrees in higher education or SA, and some simply learn while doing.
It is difficult in many contexts to convince people to get on board, as they may feel intimidated with the research and technical jargon…but fear no more! We SA assessment professionals are here to change the future of SA and we need you!
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”~Mahatma Ghandi
