This is my desk, friends! I am a big fan of color, but I like to keep my space simple and organized because it’s the way that I work best. The green and gold canvas painting is something that I created soon after I started my new role as an academic advisor at UAB to show some love and pride for my new university.
My entire office serves as a way to express my love for Star Wars, from the desktop wallpaper, to my Princess Leia bobble head and Yoda mug (a gift from one of my colleagues!). The papers on my wall are reference points for the Pre-Nursing and Pre-Health curricula, which are areas that I’m often found advising students through. Since I calculate Pre-Nursing GPAs for my students, I always have a calculator ready.
I’m a pen-and-paper kind of gal, so I keep a to-do list on my desk to keep track of what I need to accomplish each day. I’m starting a post-graduate certificate program so I’m definitely trying to keep my ducks in a row through the admissions process.
This post is part of our #DeskDiaries series, which aims to take a fun look at the diverse sets of work spaces that student affairs professionals have at the end of the year. Whether you can’t even see your computer, or your desk finally organized, we want to discover the nature of our field one desk at a time. For more information, please see Sabina’s intro post.
