As a recent college graduate, I was thrilled about moving home for the summer. I’m sure you all have felt the same way. For me, home is a small town in rural Northern Michigan. My intentions for living at home were to save some money, find a job in which I could work as many hours as possible, make a few bucks (to put toward moving expenses), and have a little bit of fun while doing so. With these intentions in mind, I applied to work at the only café in my small town, and was hired on the spot-this may tell you how small my town is and how badly the café needed summer help. I have been working now for just over a month as a server, cashier, and most recently a barista in training. I thought that this would just be another casual summer job for me, however, I am getting so much more out of it than what I had originally envisioned. I have learned so much about myself and the world of Student Affairs through the my job at the café and I thought it would be fun to share some of this with others in the field.
