The world of entertainment has evolved into a place where it is expected more and more to provide quality on-demand. Thankfully, there is a lot of entertaining, thought provoking, and engaging content out there in the form of podcasts. Essentially high-quality radio broadcasts for your smartphone/tablet, podcasts give you information, community, and fresh episodes every week so you’re never left without something to listen to.
Of course, in addition to our own wonderful podcast, I listen to a few different ones regularly for either fun or for professional development. Check them all out below and leave any recommendations you have for more!
I like this podcast a lot since it feels like it is just a simple premise with profound results. The two hosts, Jon and Chris, interview top thought leaders on a wide array of topics and get out of the way so that their guests can shine. It has had over a hundred episodes already so you can dive right in and binge on their awesomeness!
Lewis Howes hosts this show that has a similar feel to the Smart People Podcast but he tends to lean more towards entrepreneurs like Adam Braun, Simon Sinek, and Marc Ecko. He also talks a lot about wellness topics, both physical and mental, so it’s definitely worth a listen just for the wide array of topics he goes over with guests.
This is more of a fun one. The Nerdist Podcast is from the site, YouTube channel, and overall company of the same name that is helmed by Chris Hardwick. Hardwick hosts this show with his partners Matt Mira and Jonah Ray and it has a fun, casual, and engaging format that always reminds me of just hanging out with my friends. They’ve recently had such guests as Jared Leto, Will Arnett, and Aaron Eckhart. With over 500 episodes, there is absolutely something for everyone.
This production is unique in this list of shows since it is for student affairs professionals, by a student affairs professional. The podcast is the brainchild of Conor McGrath who works out in California currently where he is pursuing his doctorate and also creates this podcast with over a hundred episodes with different student affairs folks from all over the country. I appreciate that he always talks on balance and harmony amidst our crazy lives in this field and look forward to many more episodes!
Last but not least, one of the most popular podcasts of all time! This American Life, hosted by the one and only Ira Glass. The show is like no other, providing intriguing insights into the everyday lives of people who never really have their stories told. If you haven’t listened to them before, do yourself a favor and check out their hundreds of hours of episodes in the myriad of ways they have been so generous to make them available. Check it out on your next long car ride, bus ride, train ride, or lazy Sunday.
Hope you enjoy these offerings and do please share any other podcasts you enjoy regularly.
Have an awesome day!
