Recently, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled on marriage equality. They made marriage between two people, regardless of sex, legal. From a Human Resources perspective this means benefits now can be applied to same-sex partners. I have seen some articles coming out about how this will play out at different institution types. The University of Texas announced that starting this week (July 1st) they will be extending benefits to same-sex spouses & dependents of those spouses. However, there has also been discussion on how some religiously affiliated institutions will respond to this ruling & how it will impact their benefits. Today’s question – does the recent #SCOTUS decision regarding marriage equality impact how your institution distributes benefits?
